Garden Committee
- Details
Bickerdike provides land and resources for hands-on programs at two community gardens known as Our Block Community Farm and Harold Washington Memorial Garden. The goals of these gardens are:
- To contribute to the beautification of our neighborhood
- To provide fresh, seasonal produce grown without the use of chemicals for Bickerdike residents and the community including berries, leafy greens, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, squash, potatoes, and herbs as well as flowers.
- To teach participants about the long-term benefits of gardening, growing food, healthy eating, and outdoor recreation
- To provide a welcoming, safe, peaceful place for the community—Bickerdike residents and community neighbors alike—to gather for educational and recreational events such as gardening workshops, cooking classes, movie nights, lectures, dance classes, group exercise classes, concerts, and cultural events.
